This one of my favorite boss themes from the game. A very calm and mellow song, a lot different than what you would expect from boss themes. Of course this is Earthbound, it breaks the traditional mold that Final Fantasy has crafted over the years. I like how this song has a strange errie omnious quality to it. It sounds like it is too quiet…almost too quiet. Definitely has that “something is lurking in the shadows” vibe to it. Another thing about Final Fantasy versus Earthbound is that Final Fantasy uses the same battle and few boss themes over and over. There really are not that many unique and distinct battle themes in Final Fantasy. Earthbound on the other hand has several battle themes and each one matches the enemies in every battle. This is first observation when I first listened to music in Final Fantasy and Earthbound. What do you think? [..YouTube..] Though the Sanctuary Guardians all looked comical, I love imagining them to be far more sinister, bigger, and vicious than they seem. Especially the Plague Rat of Doom: Giant Infested Rat in a Sewer that wants nothing less than to gut your body and crunch your skull.
[..YouTube..] There’s something terribly moving about this song. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s like trying to overcome a difficult thought, or perhaps… mistake you’ve made.
[..YouTube..] I don’t know why but whenever I heard the part from 00:03 to 00:21, I always felt moved in a way… like the song spoke to me.

[..YouTube..] personally, I thought the original mix was more active, and therefore more appropriate for a battle. But this still works, as it has an air of “dude, youre screwed.”

[..YouTube..] I’d agree that the Carbon Dog/Diamond Dog duo is the toughest sanctuary battle, but I also think that if you’re not adequately prepared for Thunder and Storm (6th Sanctuary) it’s a really rough time as well. I’ve beaten Earthbound about 25-30 times since I was a kid and still to this day have occasional trouble with those battles.

[..YouTube..] Not neccessarily, I make the game harder on purpose for more of a challenge. Try beating some of those bosses without using multi bottle rockets, it’ll be a lot harder than you think. Blowing through a game using the strongest weapons gets boring, challenging yourself is a lot more fun, at least to me. I recommend giving the game a shot with no multi bottle rockets.
[..YouTube..] Well, try to beat the bosses without leveling up well, or without using any defense sprays, shield neutralizer or support items like snakes, the monkey’s love, bags of dragonite, or even bombs and bottle rockets. That could be a little harder.

[..YouTube..] I just got done replaying the game. I didn’t use PSI all though out the game. I heavily relied on just luck and pure strength.
[..YouTube..] Diamond Dog is very hard (nearly impossible if you don’t have the right items in your inventory), but Ness’ Nightmare was the hardest boss in the game for me. That’s probably because it’s a one-on-one fight where you have to stay alive at any cost.

[..YouTube..] Lol, Ness’ Nightmare was a bitch. Took me 4 tries to beat it. Managing my PP to attck AND heal was difficult, but I was very shocked when Ness gains 600 PP just for killing his bad side.
