I recently posted the theme for Magus so I decided to put Schala’s up now since they are both related. Magus AKA Janus is Schala’s brother. Schala is one of the more popular characters because she is one of the few who reluctantly fed the Mammon Machine that was draining the palace of its power. Even though her mother, the Queen of Zeal, forced her to feed the machine, Schala eventually refused but it was too late. Queen Zeal had been corrupted with the power of the machine but Schala saw through the machine’s evil grip and could no longer support her mother in using it to bring supposed prosperity to Zeal. Lavos has reawakened and will wreck havoc unless our heroes can stop it. Magus who disguised himself as a prophet returned to Zeal in 12,000 BC in hopes of destroying Lavos once reawakened from its slumber.

[..YouTube..] When my brother played this, I would always watch because I just loved the graphics, characters, etc, but when I hear this music or any other music, I would just close my eyes and listen to it and hope that my brother would stay in that moment of the game for just a few more minutes…LOL.This music gives me serious chills, the good kind though.

Imagine how amazingly badass remakes of those three games could be with the same storyline, same characters, same music, but all just updated with killer 3D graphics. One can only dream.

[..YouTube..] My only objection to that question is XENOGEARS OST! Yasunori Mitsuda’s “Immortal” soundtrack.Chrono Trigger OST is a nanometer behind Xenogears OST.And, hm, well…Nobuo Uematsu quit…I think Yasunori may have quit even before him…seeing as the two bothed worked together on Chrono Trigger I’d say that’s where it all the talent went, for the most part; there are exceptions.

[..YouTube..] That’s an interesting question. I wonder if it has to do with companies having less to work with back in the day and having to be more creative to get the results they want. You couldn’t fake an epic feeling by layering on a lot of chanting voices, for example. The rhythm had to carry the emotions because the instruments and technology
[..YouTube..] (whoops) …where more limited. Kind of like big-budget how action movies can rely on slick special effects and neglect the story and characters but still succeed. Small budget movies have to nail the subtle elements of movie-making because they can’t afford the glitz. It’s just my guess, but I think that’s why some of the old music (CT in particular) excels despite comparatively limited resources.
[..YouTube..] Yeah, that’s certainly a plausible theory and I like your analogy to big budget movies. I definitely get the sense that composers get incredibly lazy now given they have much more sophisticated synthesizers and think, for example, they can haphazardly throw together a bunch of chants and pass it off as an epic, emotionally moving piece. Maybe it works on some people, but I’ve been turned off by almost everything to come out post 16-bit.

( Second to The Black Omen) But Schala’s song actually set the tone of the events to come in the game for me. Truly a memorable song that like the game plays beyond the flow of time. Everytime I hear it I think back to my childhood. ( P.S.) This game scared the hell outta me as a kid with Lavos and the end of the world lol. (Played Game in 1998 Nov.)
[..YouTube..] I disagree there, the FF VII to FF X were great and very popular(I will also add great games like Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story and Xenogears). In fact they were a lot more popular than the SNES ones. But I guess everyone has his preference when it comes to RPGS.
