[..YouTube..] Check out Metroid Prime’s soundtrack, and you’ll realize how wrong this is (well, for most cases at least). I don’t think it’s that they’re being rejected as much as they are going to a more of a cinematic feel in music. Anybody can make music, but one thing that 8-bit and 16-bit music requires is the ability to create a nice melody, which isn’t really required now-a-days and so it ends up being not as memorable.

[..YouTube..] It’s always struck as strange how music from NES and SNES video games has stood out to much more than any made for the consoles that followed. Maybe I’m just getting old and cranky, but it really seems the music made for newer games was neglected in favor of visual gimmicks.
