This the theme song for Magus AKA Janus, Schala’s brother. I love the howling wind in the beginning, it defintely adds some atomshpere and tension of things to come. Frog insists on dropping Magus a visit due to a feud between the two. When Frog, also know as Glenn, was young, his friend named Cyrus always protected him. Cyrus was a knight and Frog aspired to be one just like Cyrus. One fateful day, Cyrus crossed Magus and Cyrus lost. Frog now has taken over Cyrus’ role of protecting Gaurdia from Magus and has vowed swift revenge against Magus. When you fight Magus the second time on the cliff in 12,000 B.C. you can choose to defeat him and fulfill Frog’s promise to revenge Cyrus. On the other hand, you can enlist Magus as a playable party member and gain access to his power dark magic. I normally would allow Magus to join because I like having more characters to choose from. This is not necessary but I like to try out new characters. If you defeat Magus, then Frog will turn into a Prince during the ending with a scene involving Marle. I guess the whole Princess turning the Frog back into a “Prince” still holds true, at least for Chrono Trigger.

[..YouTube..] That is definitely a cry. Of what or whom I can’t say. But I think it could be someone in the throes of death or agony. Janus (as Magus) is Shadow-elemental, and so many of his attacks manipulate the powers of death and darkness.
[..YouTube..] God I hated fighting Magus. I used crono, lucca and frog to get all three elements on my side in case Magus used any water, fire or lighting attacks. After that little caper, I had to use normal attacks because it was useless using magic against him seeing as though he uses barrier. Then the bastard uses darkmatter and killed me off. GARGH!!!!

[..YouTube..] I played trigger while i was younger and my older brother was playing it. i was scared of the game but couldnt help but watch him own the whole game O_O crono trigger really digs deap… final fantasy 7 i played when i was a teen, it was just as good. although the music isn’t as memorable as ct is, gameplay stuck more than ff7… i love both games, but ct owns it hands down.

[..YouTube..] Here’s the quick and dirty way to kick his ass. Pack lots of revives. Make sure that you’ve got the second version of your chosen element magic, (Water 2, Lightning 2, etc) and make sure that you’ve got either lots of healing potions, or Marle in the party. Trust me. The healing. It will come in VERY handy. During the bits where he has a barrier up that you can’t get through, take advantage of the time, and heal up. Because gods knows he won’t let you heal up any other time.

I wonder, however, if anything nice happens if you win “Chrono Cross” and save Schala with Guile in your team, or keep him & Kid on all the time.

[..YouTube..] Guile/Alf(Alfador, the cat) in Japanese was originally designed as a teenage Magus who was still on his endless quest for Schala/Sarah but writing the the slightest hint of Chrono Trigger was TOO complicated for the whiney punks and he became a background character. Amusingly enough, in Radical Dreams he is described as being able to assume the form of a shadow. Next time you visit Luccia to read the letter from Lucca who mentions “Janus” look for the extra 4th shadow tailing your own group. Ah?

[..YouTube..] This is possibly one of the greatest boss themes ever! I also found it fitting that Magus’s hp was 6666. My friend could never get past Magus he was so hard until recently! I actually didn’t have much trouble from him… aside from the almost having my entire party KO’d when I wasn’t paying attention, the tedious spell planning when he changed barriers, and the sheer awesomness of the fight.
