The highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out for the Wii this week on Sunday March 9, 2008. We all have our favorite characters who did not make it. Only so many characters can make the final cut, here are a few characters who I think would have made great additions to the Brawl line up.
Cloud Strife
We need an representative from Final Fantasy. Currently, there is no one from Squaresoft/Enix on the list and we need someone. How about the most popular Final Fantasy character from the materia era? I nominate Cloud Strife, that spiky haired mercenary who wields a blade twice his size. Brawl symbolizes the greatest of video gaming history, with its collection of console icons. I would love to see Cloud use different materia as his main skills. This would make him unique compared to the other characters.
Megaman
Why did they forget Megaman? Everyone is saying that Samus + Kirby = Megaman, but we have lots of clones out there already like Mario/Luigi, Lucas/Ness, and the Links. Would Megaman really be another repetitive character who would serve as filler? I think not. Megaman is easily one of the most recognizable characters in video game history along with Mario, Link, and Sonic. For me, I would like to see the Blue Bomber version of Megaman with his trustful dog Rush and flying friend Beat. I know we all saw what Megaman was link in a tournament fighters like Marvel vs Capcom (MvC). I really think that the MvC version of Megaman would have fit Smash better. Since Brawl also has boss characters now, maybe Wily should join the enlisted roster. Sorry Megaman,

Miles “Tails” Prower
I know that Sonic made the cut so his buddy Tails should join also. Having more characters from the same franchise makes epic battle a lot of fun. For example, take Mario and Luigi versus Sonic and Tails. This matchup is like putting Nintendo against Sega. Battles of epic proportions are endless which is why the Smash series is so great. Since Tail is mainly known for his flying abilities, he would be another great aerial fighter with Pit and Metaknight.

Problem? Cloud never appeared on any nintendo consoles. it’s one of the requirements for getting a slot in the game. Would have been totally awesome though. I personally think that a Resident Evil character would have been cool. Leon or someone.
And to all those that say Snake didn’t ever play on any Nintendo systems - He appeared in Metal Gear Solid : The twin snakes.
ofc we need Cloud Strife, FF7 is like the best storyline in the history of gaming, a shame he wasn’t included

I think the idea behind Smash is that it’s an all-out Nintendo console character battle. Sonic and Tails have shown up on various Nintendo systems, and Megaman has been with them since the beginning, but Cloud was only on a Sony platform. Instead, how about Shadow from FFIII/XI, a generic Black Mage, or any character from FFXII which had its spinoff on the DS?
Nintendo was going to inlcude Megaman. They pulled him out because Capcom went back on their word to Nintendo not to release Resident Evil 4 for any other platform. (PS2)
I think your just a fanboy. FFVII is highly over rated FFVI was so much better, but FFVII reached a much larger audience.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a final fantasy charactor on there but you forgot bomberman, ickybob clay, boogerman, the ninja from ninja gaiden, a dude from contra, izzy from izzy’s wreckingball, pac-man, q-bert, and earthworm jim. i would like to see some of them in that game.
i think cloud strife is over mentioned. Any true final fantasy fan knows the final fantasy 7 was NOT the best final fantasy. If i had to pick a character to go into brawl out of the final fantasy series i would pick Sabin. Based on his very unique move set list already incorporated into FF6. If final fantasy 6 (3 in N.A) is ever re-made, all you new comers will finally realize how much better the game really is.
I agree whole heartedly on the idea of cloud being in smash bros.
i’d also love to see some more diverse characters enter the fray from various companies outside of the viewing line, anyone else pay as shiek back on melee and start wondering why there weren’t any more ninja-esque charters in the lineup that were more…rugged?

thank you fanman. Least someone out there isnt a huge FF7 fanboy. People think the storyline for FF7 was so good because of great cutscenes. But really it actually follows a story arc very close to that of FF6. Like i said earlier. If ff6 is ever remade, the game will shatter any sales records set by FF7.

Cloud would be cool and being as he appeared in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the Gameboy Advance he technically did appear on a Nintendo system, as did Squall and Tidus. Squall would actually be the final fantasy character I would like to see or perhaps vincent, I like cloud but I think he is being over used, Cecil from Final Fantasy IV would be really cool his original game came out for a nintendo system, that and they are remaking it like they did for III on the DS so Cecil would be a really cool addition.
I also agree that Mega Man being one of the main staples of the viseo game world should have been included, however I like the idea of the EXE/Battle Network or Ryuusei/Star Force Mega Man better. Or perhaps Zero from the Zero Series not the original X version. In all likely hood it would be the Star Force Mega Man considering that is the current main franchise that the Mega Man group is pushing.
As for Tails I really don’t care.
I think a Final Fantasy and Mega Man character should be present, and I will not buy brawl because it doesn’t have a Final Fantasy Characte, I am happy enough with Melee, except perhaps considering that Nojima-sensei worked on the SSE might be enough to get me to buy it used or when it drops from $50 un-reasonable to a more reasonable $25-30 range.
Why would they leave out Megaman? He could have been an excellent character for Brawl, if you think about it. His attacks could have been very brutal, yet powerful…
I don’t really care about Tails. What would he do anyway?
As for Cloud, he could have been a great character too, as he was in Final Fantasy…
how come no one even mentioned crono yet? He was easily one of baddest-assinest square characters ever. They should had either him or Hero from secret of mana and then brawl would have been complete. Good point about megaman too…..

Tails is in brawl already. kinniest, mega man is not from nintendo and besides hes just like samus he would probably have the same moves. medley, tails does alot in brawl. he can use his tails alot and did i mention he also gets a sweet gun.
P.S. Final Fantasy characters do not deserve to be in brawl they would ruin it.
I will agree that Cloud is a bit overused when it comes to fans that wish he was in every video game ever made, get over it, it’s not gonna happen. Think about it, what would Cloud actually be able to do? Slash and magic. Now think about someone like Luneth or Arc from Final Fantasy III, they could maybe change classes in the middle of battle and have a wide variety of different abilities, plus they were put on the DS, therefore, nintendo.
Over the years, Tails has become kind of useless.
I’ve never cared about Megaman.
A square rep…how about Geno. You know, from Super Mario RPG. In fact he was supposed to be in the game as the last 3rd party, but square wouldn’t allow it. So that explains why the random box is were it is. That was supposed to be Geno’s spot.

I love all the ideas, honestly they should have chose mega-man over solid snake….
cloud would be the greatest character ever, and they’d probably have to use the kingdom hearts version so he’d get the bad-ass wing of his, of coarse if they used the advent children cloud his moves would consist of him using different combinations of his newer sword ;p
tails… maybe, he should have got the spot, but what would he do… he was always more of a side-kick to sonic
and if they had cloud… they would need sephiroth… they have to be together, it would just be awesome to play a battle out with those 2

All the playable characters so far have first appeared on a nintendo system (except sonic… but he needed to be in this game) from the first mario to the first metal gear, but seeing as this game is quickly expanding on bringing in third party characters, cloud would be an awesome addition, hopefully one day they will include enough gaming icons that who ever your favorite character is, be it Kratos from god of war or master chief from halo for that matter, you could see how fair in a free for all against the gaming universe.

Cloud is alright and so is Megaman, but I don’t really agree about adding more to a series. If they added more to the series, there would be more Mario characters than the roster itself.

I agree with this list all the way, it is lame that we ended up with 35 measly characters instead of 50 like I could of sworn that Nintendo said they would’ve had. Except I never really liked Tails, instead, how about Shadow or Knuckles?
All of you guys make a very good point. I am disappointed as well, but maybe we should be a bit more greatful for the characters that we got. However it has been discused that there may be more hidden, but don’t get your hopes to up. I hope they make a 4th one, they better make a forth one, I can’t live without Smash Bros. Oh and you can play as all of these characters in a flash game called Super Smash Flash. It is quite awesome for a flash game.

I like your suggestions. I really think that if made right Tails would be an awesome addition but nobody every lets him fight. He could do a tail spin attack with his Tails that would be similar to Pit’s attack. I mean he was in Sonic games before Shadow or Knuckles. Also both Shadow and Knuckles should be in there too and then that should be the limit for Sonic characters cause those four would be awesome playable characters. I think everyone is suprised Megaman didn’t get in and I am as well. Megaman and Zero should both join the next game(which they need to make one). Cloud would be a cool addition but they’d have to add Sephiroth too because I think if you put one character in, you have to put a second character from that game. I mean come on you have Link and toon Link but you only have one Sonic character??? Equal it out here.
What is up with you people and a “next game”? It hasn’t even been more than two months since it was released and you guys are talking as if another one is being released in a few months! For god’s sake people, they haven’t even announced a new Smash Bros. Heck, it took them half a decade to create Brawl! The next one might not be released until 2015, so shut up, and wait until Nintendo says there will be another. I think they might take suggestions again if they do announce it, so ask them instead of filling the internet with your idiotic thoughts and ideas with things that might not even happen.

Wow I forgot about all of those characters and even if some of the supprorting characters didn’t make it as fighters they could be used as assist trophies

3. Blazekin (i think mis-spelled)
4. Knuckles
this is the first time i have heard of anyone wanting Cloud, i have seen Sora a couple times but not Cloud, Cloud would be freakin awesome

I think there is another character that should have made the roster: Bomberman. He too is a true nintendo classic character
I am a huge mario fan so to me i hate the fact that they left out Daisy. I could picture her a little heavier than sheik with the same fast moves and still be a liitle bit dainty like peach with her umbrella.
ssb needs to have more doubles like baby mario and baby luigi. i picture them as clones of Ice Climbers. for their special jump instead of a rope to climb upmake them use a blanket. Instead of squall hammer, give them rattles instead.this is stretching it but for ice climbers blizzard the babies can scream very very very loud.

if Dixie would team up with Diddy they could create a very unique character.
No offense, but you’ve gotta be stupid if you think Cloud will ever make it to an SSB game. Sure he’s cool and all, but it’s pretty much his fault Nintendo lost so much possible profits from Final Fantasy games, and I doubt that grudge will ever be let up. Not to mention that he was never even a character in a Nintendo game. I really doubt that a little appearance on KH:CoM would get him a spot; if anything that game would get Sora or Riku a spot. If a Final Fantasy character will be included in the next SSB game, I’m pretty sure it’ll be an FFTA, FF12:DS, FF3:DS, or FF6 character. Most likely it will be Sabin or Shadow from FF6. As for Megaman, I’d love to see him there, but as the X version, with all the powerups. He looks freakin badass like that. Tails I highly doubt will be in a SSB game, cause there are plenty of better Sonic characters to pick instead. I wish Geno or Bomberman were there, that would rock.
A quick note to all youse Cloud and Sephiroth fans….if you really wanna see ‘em duke it out just buy a copy of Ehrgiez (sp?) for ps1….its loaded with FF7 characters. And I still think that as far as Square-Enix characters in Smash goes it would have to be Crono, Hero (SoM), or someone from Star Ocean perhaps Ronixis or Ratix. But for classic appeal why not the guy from Joust or Pac-Man….those 6 or 7 pixels woulda been way better than Olimar the useless bastard or the waste of memory Toon Link.

dunno about cloud nor do i care for those complaining about tails. tails has been a sidekick yes but next to sonic he is the most respectable character than shadow or knuckles he has survived longer.
plus shadow would just have the exact move list as sonic (come on shadow fans do you REALLY want that it’ll be like the whole confusing them in SA2B and sonic X and they look nothing alike!).
and Tails would probably do alot he is a mechanic after all alot of gadgets and flying ability in there.
as for Megaman i would love to see him there he’s been with nintendo since the NES he’s a legend he shoulda been added totally.
