Nintendo Power: R.O.B Images

I was flipping through some old issues of Nintendo Power and found some images of our little robo buddy. I heard he will be one of the characters on Super Smash Brothers Brawl which is great. Click on the image below to see it in full-size.

R.O.B existed around the mid-80s or so and then I remembered that movie about another robot that looked just like R.O.B. The movie is called Short Circuit and here is the robot in that movie:

Short Curcuit existed around the same time and the resemblance is remarkable. What are you thoughs on this? Does anyone still have a fully-functioning R.O.B.?
