When you are out looking for a new video game, you want one that has lasting power. You want something challenging that will test your nerves and patience. To pass these games will both need a high-level of skill and excellent hand-eye coordination. What are certain things that you should be looking out for when getting your next game? Look at this list to see what makes video games so challenging.
One-hit Deaths
This can be a challenge for the most seasoned veteran, or a complete nightmare for a first-timer. One-hit deaths are easily one of the most defining points of a video game. When people comment or review a video game, they will most likely mention if you can die in one-hit. We have been down this road before. Just when you are about to pass a stage, a random speeding bullet just slams right into you, killing you. No shields? No lifebar? Nothing but a lost life. These can be very frustrating and require a lot of practice and memorization to overcome. If you are looking for a challenge than one-hit deaths certainly can top anyone’s list.
No Continues/Savepoints
Some of these games are expecting us to accomplish the impossible. With no continues or savepoints we must overcome great odds to reach the end of the level. This seems challenging at first, but then you being to realize that long level are painful to redo. Some just refuse to subject themselves to repeating a level over and over again. Not to mention that some many just give up if they fail to move on. If you like to do things on your own with no help, perhaps you would like something that is nearly devoid of any saving features. If the video game uses passwords instead of a battery to save your progress, do not bother writing it down. Besides, you can pass the entire game in one session right?
Impossible Leaps of Faith
Every game has at least one of these things in them. These sections where they force you to jump over a gap that is miles wide and your character is unable of performing such acrobatic feats. You know the usual result of attempting such stunts. Normally you end up falling into the hole to find yourself trying to jump over the chasm again. Many games have tricky jumps, and these always add a challenging to your game. The best part of these jumps is when you just miss them by the tiniest fraction but still fall through.
Running Out of Time
Not having enough time to complete a level can really ruin your concentration. Instead of worrying about enemies, platforms, and items all of your attention is diverted to the timer. Being cautious and aiming are not possible under you are under the clock. When the timer reaches zero you know what happens, it is back to drawing board (square one). Short timers add on to a game’s difficulty.
Conclusion
Good thing most games allow you to change the difficultly, or else we may never see the ending of certain video games. Of course, with sites like YouTube now we can just go here instead to see what the ending for that particular game is on its hardest setting. The most important part of playing video games is the satisfaction of beating them. Adding another game that you conquered to your list is reason enough to take on these impossible challenges. Just go easy on the cartridge/CD if the bosses start running circles around you.

I always like to play games on easier or normal levels. I like a challenge, but I just don’t see the fun in getting dominated by the CPU all the time.
