Flash Game: Tactics Core

If you have played Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX/GBA) then you should be familiar which the turned-based chess-like battlemode. This is another great game at Newgrounds called Tactics Core found here:

Newgrounds Tactics Core

This plays almost exactly like FF Tactics, which a wide cast of character classes. You have a team of sturdy knights, the quick fighters, long-ranger archers, devastating wizards, and of course, your all important healer. Tactics Core is very challenging after the first few times. Even though you outnumber the enemy seven to six, this game still requires a lot of strategy and thorough understanding of how each unit works. I highly recommend this Flash game and will provide an overview of some of the more pivotal classes.

Red Wizard

This is the strongest character on your team, and my personal favorite. It is always fun to see how much damage this guy can do in one turn. The red wizard can attack five spaces that cover the same area as a plus sign. Be careful and make sure that you target only enemy characters. It is very easy to attack friendly units when caught in the crossfire. Use this unit’s long-range to your advantage and stay as far away as possible while being able to hit as many enemy characters. The enemy also knows the power of your red wizard and will often prioritize him as the target over lesser damaging characters. As expected, this class is very fragile and will not last long if enemy knights or fighters have boxed him in. So keep your healer nearby for emergency healing and let your front line knights and fighters block the enemies’ path to your wizards.

Shadowblade Assassin

Although not the strongest of characters, this one is defintely the fastest. This class can easily get in two turns in the same time that other units only get in one. The assassin can move a very far distance per turn which means this is the perfect class for chasing down and finishing off weakened classes. This class also does well in hit or run situations where you use your first turn to attack and enemy and quickly use your second to retreat away before the enemy even has time to retaliate. This class is meant to dart around the board chasing the severly weakened, or escaping and luring enemies into your team.

Mystical Healer

Since this is the only class that you have that can heal, it is very important to keep this character in the back. Like the magic-users, the enemies will often target the healer over the others since the healer is the one who keeps everyone on your team alive. So keep this character well-guarded with your front line. Never leave physically weak characters like the healer or wizards alone since the enemy can easily defeat them if left undefended.

Templar Mage

This is your other wizard, who can attack enemies in a straight line. Like the red wizard, the mage can also harm allys so make sure you only target the enemy when using this class. Since this class can attack several enemies at once, you must protect this character like the red wizard. Keep this class in the back near the healer.

The Secret Daemon

Newgrounds Tactics Core Daemon Newgrounds Tactics Core Daemon Newgrounds Tactics Core Daemon

There is a secret character that you can get if everyone on your team has been defeated except for the healer. When the healer is the last character, it will change in to a Daemon that can kill any enemy class in one hit. The Daemon’s attack is so strong that it does 9999 damage, which is the max in this game. You should use the daemon if you find yourself with just a few weak units leave and want to see if the Daemon can win it for you. You can kill off your own units to speed up the process. However, the Daemon is not invincible and can be defeated. So it is recommended that you quickly dispatch the rest of the enemys before they overwhelm your remaining unit.

Overall

Try this game out. You have to move strategically and attack methodically. The units that I have mentioned are the more useful ones and the rest tend to be tanks and shields.
